Democratic Women's Political Action Committee of Maryland

CORE ISSUES:

  • A woman should have the right to obtain an abortion as set forth in the Roe v. Wade decision and codified in Maryland state law.

  • All Maryland residents should have universal health insurance coverage based upon ability to pay (see Maryland Citizen's Health Care Initiative at www.healthcareforall.com for an example).

  • All public schools should receive adequate and equitable funding from the State with a full commitment to Thornton and a parallel commitment from local jurisdictions to maintain and increase levels of school funding as State funds increase.

  • Local and state government should engage communities in shaping development and land use policies that promote smart growth, revitalization, housing opportunities for all, and that direct resources to existing communities.

  • Federal, state, and local standards that protect the Chesapeake Bay, our drinking water, and our air quality should be strengthened in order to preserve our environment for future generations.

  • Incentives should be given to businesses and individuals to employ sustainable energy sources and utilize energy efficient techniques in our homes, vehicles, and public facilities.
